DOVER, DELAWARE, April 11, 2018 – The Delaware Sustainable Energy Utility (DESEU) is proud to announce that it received the 2018 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Award for Energy Efficiency Program Delivery. This award recognizes the outstanding results the Energize Delaware Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program achieved in 2017. This is the second year in a row that the program has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, last year earning Excellence in ENERGY STAR Promotion award.

The DESEU’s accomplishments will be recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. on April 20, 2018.

“We are thrilled that our Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program is being recognized again this year,” said Tony DePrima, DESEU Executive Director. “The Partner of the Year award recognizes our efforts to bring energy savings to more Delawareans as well as grow and support the energy efficiency industry in Delaware.”

Energize Delaware’s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program takes a whole-house approach to energy efficiency, looking at how improvements throughout the home can work together to make the entire space more comfortable, energy efficient, and save money. As part of the program, Energize Delaware subsidizes the cost of the home assessments and offers rebates and low-interest loans to homeowners making energy saving improvements.

Among the program’s 2017 achievements include:

  • 1,897 Delawareans receiving home energy assessments, and 1,712 Delawareans receiving rebates for energy saving home improvements.
  • Installing energy saving improvements that will reduce annual air emissions by 2,759 metric tons and save more than $700,000 in energy costs annually.
  • Growing the number of Participating Contractors from 18 to more than 60, thus supporting a sustainable home performance industry and increasing employment opportunities.

“We want to thank our Participating Contractors,” said Sue Sebastian, DESEU Program Manager. “We wouldn’t have achieved these results and won the Partner of the Year award without their hard work.”

“The 2018 ENERGY STAR Partners of the Year have demonstrated real leadership, showing how American families and businesses can save energy, save money, and reduce air emissions,” said Bill Wehrum, EPA Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation.

In 2016 alone, ENERGY STAR certified products, homes, buildings, and plants helped Americans save over $30 billion in energy costs and approximately 400 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, all while achieving broad emissions reductions.
