The Skating Club of Wilmington (SCW) a 501 (c)(3) corporation has received an energy efficiency low-interest commercial loan from Energize Delaware to purchase a Zamboni electric ice resurfacer, electric ice edger and electric space heaters.
“The ice resurfacer is the lifeblood of a skating club. The electric Zamboni is part of our overall energy-efficiency upgrades. Because of it and the other equipment we are purchasing, we will have lower maintenance, no emissions, and will save money,” said, Bill McGlinchey, President of the Board of the Skating Club of Wilmington.
The SCW is a public skating center offering lessons, caters to all age groups and has a mix of hockey, figure skaters, ice dancers, synchronized skating teams, serious competitors and novices who want to learn how to ice skate.
In 2017 the SCW had an energy audit which determined how to make their building more energy efficient. Most of those measures like new insulated white roof that reflects solar heat and LED lighting on the interior and exterior of the building have been installed. The upgraded electric machines and prior installs will save SCW roughly $42,823 per year in energy and maintenance.
Tony DePrima, Executive Director of Energize Delaware said, “This is an unusual loan and the first electric vehicle we have financed. Last year we financed an energy efficient roof for the club. It is terrific to work with this energy conscience Skating Club.”
Energize Delaware a 501 (c)(3) is sanctioned by the State of Delaware in Title 29 of the Delaware Code, to design and deliver comprehensive end-user energy efficiency and customer-sited renewable energy services to Delaware’s households and businesses.
