NeighborGood Partners, with project funding from Energize Delaware and the City of Dover, and technical support from New Ecology, is constructing the first Phius certified homes in Delaware. Once complete, these homes will provide much needed affordable homeownership opportunities in Central Dover and advance a shared objective to not only build extremely energy-efficient, climate-ready housing, but also to engage and educate community members and actors in Delaware’s residential construction sector on the type of housing Delawareans need to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Attendees are invited to join New Ecology staff for a hard-hat tour of these homes at the mid-point phase before assemblies and systems are covered with drywall. This tour has been planned with support from the GBU DE Community.
Learning Objectives
Learning Objectives
- Attendees will be able to identify the key principles that define passive house design and construction and what distinguishes this methodology from the requirements for base energy code compliance.
- Attendees will explore how using the Phius Prescriptive Path framework can streamline the process of designing extremely energy-efficient, healthy homes.
- Attendees will interact with design and construction team members to discuss assemblies and systems, using actual installed conditions as the basis for discussion. Specific topics will include: triple pane windows, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, air barrier detailing, and building assemblies.
- Attendees will explore how cost-effective, high-performance construction methods can be implemented in affordable housing.
