Energize Delaware has partnered with the University of Delaware’s award-winning Industrial Assessment Center (IAC) to offer free energy assessments for nonprofit and government buildings in Delaware. These audits are the first step toward lowering your electricity and natural gas bills by identifying ways to improve energy efficiency and building comfort.
The program has helped senior centers, churches, firehouses, community centers, and other buildings achieve 20–30% energy savings.
Who Performs the Assessments?
The University of Delaware’s Mid-Atlantic IAC, part of a U.S. Department of Energy program. Assessments are conducted by graduate students under faculty supervision.
What You Get
A detailed report with energy-saving recommendations, ranked by return on investment. Many include no- or low-cost options.
Follow-up services are available to help interpret results and explore financing options like Energize Delaware’s Revolving Loan Fund.
Common Benefits
For eligible nonprofits and government entities, Energize Delaware covers 100% of the audit cost:
Energize Delaware’s Performance Contracting Program helps schools, universities, municipalities, hospitals, and nonprofits implement energy and water efficiency projects with minimal financial risk. It offers a comprehensive assessment of energy use and provides contractual and financing mechanisms to fund upgrades.
Projects are delivered by a pool of prequalified Energy Services Companies (ESCOs). The upgrades are funded using long-term utility cost savings, with guaranteed savings covering the cost of improvements—typically over 15–20 years.
Performance contracting is ideal if:
