DOVER, Del. — The findings of a new Value of Battery Storage report, announced today by Energize Delaware, reveal that accelerating the deployment of battery energy storage systems could deliver up to $1.18 billion in total net benefits to the state over the 2027–2036 period.

Prepared in response to Delaware Senate Joint Resolution 3 (2025), the report’s findings share the largest impacts are economic, $615 million, and utility cost savings, $166 million. The latter of which are driven almost entirely by avoidable transmission and distribution investment.

“This report continues to highlight the need to further consider non-wire alternatives, such as energy storage, to offset costly utility upgrades,” said Drew Slater, Executive Director of Energize Delaware. “By modernizing our grid through both local and large-scale battery projects, we can unlock over a billion dollars in benefits that will strengthen our workforce, lower utility infrastructure costs, and protect our communities from costly power outages.”
